HISTORY:
1/2011: Introduces a new series of elegant, nature inspired 9/11 memorial sculptures.
12/2010: “Public Art Review” features “Water Spirits” in their December, 2010 issue.
11/2010: “Blast Off! rocket sculpture installed in front of the Cradle of Aviation Museum,” Garden City, New York.
6/2010: Builds “The Student Body” 10 foot tall sculpture with 87 students from a Rochester High School. Sculpture on permanent display in High School library.
6/2009: Due to overwhelming enthusiasm over the “Blast Off” rocket sculpture, Weisbeck begins producing 14 inch desktop replicas of the 13 ft. sculpture.
11/1/2008: Winner, Wall Street, New York sculpture commission, to design a 21st century symbol for the up-trending financial market. The “Bull Market Rocket,” 13 foot tall stainless steel rocket, is chosen as the new, modern, symbol for Wall Street, which replaces the 18th century, archaic bull.
7/11/2008: Unveils “Water Spirits,” 32 foot tall, 2 and 1/2 tons “Gateway to the City” of Rochester, NY. NYSDOS waterfront sculpture commission winner. $70,000.00.
4/2008: Invited by Beijing Olympics committee to attend Landscape Sculpture Competition Awards Ceremony. Wins “Excellent Works” Award in Beijing Olympics. Only NY artists so honored. The first time in the history of the Games that art is an official category of competition.
4/2008: Unveils solid gold sculptural desktop pen tray to the luxury market. Featured in “Pen World,” “Stylus” and “Forbes” magazines.
3/2007: Finalist, Traffic Circle Sculpture, Hamburg, New York
10/2006: Finalist, Center for Inquiry, Buffalo, New York, 12 foot sculpture.
8/2006: Winner: Corn Hill Landing sculpture competition, Rochester, New York. 32 foot tall sculpture will be gateway to the city and a dramatic, monumental beacon lit at night. Completion date: July, 2008. Works with engineers, contractors and city officials. Project budget: $70,000.00.
2/2006: Invited by the Beijing, China Sculptural Landscape Committee to submit sculpture proposals for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, submits sculpture entitled, “The Celebration of Ren,” (Humanity), a 50 foot tall arch based on a Chinese pictograph of the letter “ren,” which represents people. The concept of the sculpture is a three dimensional brush stroke.
5/2006: Becomes Winner, Finalist; in Beijing Olympics; sculpture model tours throughout 50 cities in China and worldwide. Mark and Diane Weisbeck are two of only eight Americans to become finalists in this international competition which included 2600 submitted sculptures. They are the only artists from New York to have reached this stage.
2/2005-Present: Designs and produces new line of high end executive leather desktop accessories,
11/2002-11/2004: Winner: public sculpture competition conducted by the New York State Department of Transportation to construct twelve large scale sculptures for three new bridges in downtown Rochester, New York. This is the largest art commission fully funded by New York State in history. Sculptures completed and set atop bridge pylons by 11/2004. Works with engineers, contractors, community and New York state officials. Project budget: $100,000.00.
2000-2001: Winner: Changchun, China International Sculpture Symposium, 30 foot tall sculpture entitled, “The Expanding Influence of Peace,” built in Changchun, using blueprints provided by Mark Weisbeck. Sculpture now stands in the city‘s sculpture garden. Design of Civic monuments. Sculpture Design for Architects and Developers, Chicago, Illinois.
AWARDS AND HONORS: September, 2007, Finalist, Department of Transportation Sculpture Competition, Hamburg, New York. Oct. 2006: Finalist, Center for Inquiry, Sculpture competition, Buffalo, NY. August, 2006: Winner: Corn Hill Landing sculpture competition, Rochester, New York. $65,000.00 budget, 32 foot tall waterfront sculpture, “Water Spirits” becomes gateway monument to the city and a nighttime beacon. Summer, 2008 completion. 2/2006: Invited by the Beijing, China Sculptural Landscape Committee to submit sculpture proposals for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, submits sculpture entitled, “The Celebration of Ren,” (Humanity), a 50 foot tall arch based on a Chinese pictograph of the letter for "person." 5/2006: Becomes Winner Finalist; based on votes made by the Chinese community. Model tours worldwide. Mark and Diane Weisbeck are two of only eight Americans to become finalists in this international competition which included 2600 submitted sculptures. November 2002: Winner, First public sculpture competition sponsored by the New York State Department of Transportation and the largest art commission fully funded by the state of New York in history, in which twelve sculptures are placed atop the pylons of three consecutive bridges along the I-490 Highway in downtown Rochester, New York. Project completed in November, 2004, $100,000.00 budget. March 2000: Winner, Changchun, China International Sculpture Symposium. November, 1996: Finalist, Peace Bridge Design Competition, USA/Canada. April, 1994: Finalist, Spertus Museum Design Competition, Chicago, Illinois. March, 1992: "Interior Design" Magazine cites Weisbeck desk accessories as one of the Top Ten Products of 1991. 1989-1991: Museum of Modern Art, New York; desktop accessory featured in MoMA, NY design catalog, becomes best seller. October, 1990: Gold Medal Award, Product Design, Institute of Business Designers (Chicago IL), presented at Designer's Saturday, NY.
